Diffusing Force
Reinforcing mesh absorbs tensile forces applied to a concrete structure and diffuses them across a wider area. To ensure proper tension control, place mesh laterally in areas subjected to tensile stress. Even spacing throughout the structure helps distribute force evenly and reduces the risk of cracking.
Bend the Bars
Although ribbed bars improve mechanical bonding, high tension may cause the entire mesh sheet to slip. To prevent this, bend the tips of the bars so they point inward when positioned inside the formwork. This anchors the mesh securely to the concrete and improves overall structural performance.
Choose the Right Dimension
One common installation error is pouring concrete in two layers, with the mesh placed between them. This prevents the layers from bonding properly. Instead, pour all the concrete at once and position the mesh in the middle of the slab using plastic bar chairs or supports. This ensures full encapsulation and proper load transfer.
Find the Right Mesh
Choosing the correct reinforcing mesh is essential for achieving structural stability. Form Direct supplies high quality concrete reinforcing mesh for residential, commercial and industrial construction.
Our range includes square and rectangular mesh, as well as trench mesh panels suitable for roads, masonry walls and slabs. Mesh is available in 8 mm, 11 mm and 12 mm sizes with three or four main bars. Each order is bundled, tagged and delivered in excellent condition by our reinforcing specialists.
